British Geological Survey
Founded in 1835, the British Geological Survey is the world’s longest-established national geological survey organisation. It studies the structure, age and composition of the subsurface of the Earth and the weather processes acting upon it. Ordnance Survey has partnered with the BGS to create maps and guides that reveal more about local and regional landscapes. As well as producing detailed 1:50 000 scale geology maps that expose the nature and complexity of each district, the BGS also publishes a number of other maps, guides and books.
